How design and the use of soft material encourage
its users to interact, communicate and collaborate
with each other and their surroundings?
The thesis employs a series of fabric manipulations
as a design methodology to actively engage with
the users of an artist residency proposal situated
in Red Hook area, New York. With the users’
participation, the soft fabric system changes
constantly and creates a society and a conversation
between participants. In this “action-reaction”
situation users may rearrange the space individually
or collaboratively to change it’s purpose. The
space therefore transforms into a living organism
itself that moves constantly while illuminating the
experience of the singular and collective body.
